Abstract :
Abstract This review critically examines the incorporation of montmorillonite (MMT) especially organo-modified montmorillonite (organoclay) into short-oil alkyd resin coatings, and its effects on physical and chemical stability. The scope (2005–2025) includes both fundamental research and applied/industrial studies, with emphasis on dispersion strategies (solvents, dispersants, organo-modifiers), mechanisms of interaction (intercalation vs. exfoliation), and property outcomes (mechanical, thermal, barrier, rheological, oxidative and hydrolytic stability, and anticorrosion performance). Strengths and limitations of published work are critically analysed; practical guidelines and industrial considerations for scale-up, formulation and testing are provided.
