Abstract :
Rapid technological developments, increasing energy consumption in buildings, and the necessity of reducing environmental impacts have created new challenges for traditional approaches to sustainable architecture. Under these conditions, the transition toward next-generation sustainable architecture requires the simultaneous integration of architectural design principles, smart technologies, energy efficiency, advanced materials, and sustainable development objectives. This study aims to develop an integrated framework for incorporating smart technologies, energy efficiency, and sustainable development into contemporary building design. The research is applied in terms of its objective and analytical-review in terms of its methodological approach. Research data were collected and analyzed through the examination of scientific studies related to sustainable architecture, building energy optimization, smart buildings, building systems integration, and advanced building-envelope materials. Accordingly, four foundational studies addressing energy-efficient building design optimization, building sustainability assessment, systems integration in smart buildings, and the application of advanced materials for building energy improvement were examined. The findings indicate that achieving next-generation sustainable architecture requires moving beyond a one-dimensional focus on energy consumption toward an integrated system comprising optimized architectural design, advanced envelopes and materials, smart technologies, data management and analysis, energy optimization, and environmental and human considerations. Based on the analysis, smart technologies can enhance energy efficiency and building adaptability through data collection, analysis, and adaptive control of building systems, while appropriate envelope design and the use of advanced materials can reduce the building s baseline energy demand. Furthermore, integrating these components with user comfort, emissions reduction, and resource management provides a basis for achieving sustainable development objectives. Ultimately, the study proposes an integrated framework for next-generation sustainable architecture in which technology, energy, architectural design, the environment, and quality of life are addressed synergistically throughout the building design process.
