Abstract :
The legal framework for the protection of refugees under international law is established primarily through the 1951 Refugee Convention and the 1967 Protocol. These foundational documents recognize and guarantee the fundamental rights of refugees, obligating states to adhere to the principles of non-refoulement and to protect individuals who have fled their homeland for specific reasons, including war, political persecution, or human rights violations. This international law not only aids in the identification of refugees but also provides a framework for cooperation among countries to ensure the safety and well-being of these individuals. Additionally, international organizations such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) play a key role in implementing this framework. This agency acts as a monitor and advocate for refugee rights, with responsibilities that include advising governments, providing humanitarian assistance, and supporting refugee rights at various levels. Furthermore, national and regional actions are also essential in effectively addressing the needs of refugees and protecting their rights. Ultimately, international cooperation and solidarity among countries are of particular importance in tackling the challenges related to refugees.
