Abstract :
Urban spaces in contemporary societies play a role beyond their physical function and have become a platform for social interaction, shaping collective identity, and improving the quality of life. However, in many cities, public spaces have lost their function due to inefficient design, lack of attractiveness, and lack of interactivity. This research aims to investigate the role of gamification in the design of urban spaces as a tool for social interaction and identity building. The research method is set as a qualitative analysis using a comparative study of global projects and field observation in some urban spaces in Iran. The research findings show that the targeted use of gamification elements such as challenge, scoring, competition, and rewards can increase citizen participation, promote a sense of belonging to the place, and improve the quality of the experience of urban spaces. Finally, solutions are proposed for designing and recreating urban spaces with a gamification approach in the social and cultural context of Iran.
