Abstract :
The increase in greenhouse gas emissions and the consequences of climate change have made the need to rethink architectural and construction patterns more evident than ever. Buildings, as one of the largest energy consumers worldwide, have a significant share in carbon production. Zero‑carbon architecture, as a novel, purposeful approach, aims to design and construct buildings whose net carbon dioxide emissions over their life cycle reach zero. This article examines the principles and foundations of zero‑carbon architecture and analyzes the role of smart systems for producing and storing renewable energy in achieving this goal. Technologies such as photovoltaic solar panels, small‑scale wind turbines, hydrogen fuel cells, lithium‑ion batteries, and smart building management systems are discussed. The economic, technical, and social challenges of implementing this approach are also examined, and practical solutions for its expansion are proposed. The results of this study show that combining renewable energy technologies with smart energy management systems has a high potential for achieving zero‑carbon buildings.
