Abstract :
In this study, IN625-hBN composite coating was created by laser cladding on H13 hot-work steel to improve the wear resistance of parts used in severe working conditions. The microstructure, phases formed, hardness and tribological behavior of the coating were investigated. The results showed that the created coating had a dense and crack-free structure and the formation of hard NbC and γ′/γ″ phases along with a fine-grained structure increased the surface hardness. Also, the presence of hBN reduced the friction coefficient and wear rate by creating a solid lubricant layer. The wear test results showed that the IN625-hBN coating had higher wear resistance compared to the H13 substrate and the wear mechanism changed from severe abrasion to more controlled wear. Based on the results, IN625-hBN laser cladding can be an effective solution to increase the service life of H13 steel in oil drilling applications.
