Abstract :
Biomimetic architecture is a pioneering, interdisciplinary paradigm in design and construction that offers innovative and sustainable solutions to contemporary environmental and technical challenges by studying and drawing inspiration from the principles governing living systems and natural ecosystems. This article comprehensively reviews the evolution, theoretical foundations, and practical applications of this approach, with a particular focus on extracting “natural laws” to achieve buildings with high structural resistance and superior environmental performance. In this regard, a systematic review of authoritative research between 2020 and 2025 shows how biomimetic architecture can meet the growing needs for resilience against natural disasters, optimizing resource consumption, reducing carbon footprints, and enhancing the quality of indoor environments. The article extracts and explains the key principles of biomimetic design by distinguishing different levels of inspiration from nature. It then examines the process of translating these principles into solutions that can be implemented at the building and city scale, analyzing concrete examples of built projects and recent research innovations. In addition, the numerous challenges facing this field, from technological and economic barriers to aesthetic and evaluation issues, are discussed in detail. The final findings demonstrate the transformative potential of biomimetic architecture in redefining the relationship between building and environment and moving towards a fully sustainable and resilient future. To realize this potential, it is necessary to strengthen structured interdisciplinary collaborations, develop digital manufacturing technologies and smart materials, and develop standardized evaluation frameworks.
