Abstract :
The World Food Summit emphasized the importance of access to safe food and stated that malnutrition is the leading cause of death for children under five. In addition, population growth has increased the key role of rangelands in livestock production, making sustainable rangeland management more necessary to prevent degradation. Rangelands in drylands play a critical role in producing more than 60 percent of food and livelihoods in some countries. At the same time, soil moisture is the main factor in rangeland productivity, and climate change affects it by changing rainfall and temperature patterns. This article aims to review the impact of climate change on soil moisture and rangeland productivity. Studies show that increasing temperatures cause greater evaporation and reduced moisture, which negatively affects plant growth and nutrient cycling. Technologies such as remote sensing and the SWAT model for monitoring and predicting soil moisture can provide the necessary forecasts in this field, and sustainable rangeland management by integrating these tools can lead to increased productivity and security of water, soil, food, and the environment.
