Abstract :
Social capital, as one of the fundamental concepts in contemporary social and economic sciences, plays a decisive role in the economic development of societies. In the context of urban economy, this concept is of double importance, especially in relation to the municipality as the main custodian of urban management. The present study aims to analyze and investigate the impact of social capital on the urban economy with an emphasis on the role of the municipality. The research method is library-based and based on a systematic review of domestic and foreign scientific sources. The research findings show that social capital, through mechanisms of institutional trust, citizen participation, social cohesion and cooperation networks, has a positive and significant impact on urban economy indicators, including attracting investment, improving sustainable urban income, reducing transaction costs, increasing the productivity of urban services and promoting organizational entrepreneurship. The municipality, as an intermediary institution between citizens and urban management, can enhance the economic capacity of the city by strengthening social capital. Finally, suggestions are presented for urban policymaking based on social capital.
