Abstract :
Iran is facing a severe water scarcity crisis. This research presents the conceptual design and theoretical analysis of a smart hydrophilic system that integrates a metal-organic framework (MOF-303) as the primary adsorbent with dual-wettability (hydrophilic/hydrophobic) surface patterns inspired by the Namib Desert beetle to convert humidity or steam into liquid water. This paper covers two application scenarios: (1) bathroom steam recovery with a theoretical potential of ~500 mL of water per 15-minute cycle, and (2) urban furniture application in humid climates with a potential of ~2 L of water per day for green space irrigation. The findings indicate that the use of dual-wettability surfaces can enhance water collection efficiency by up to 53% compared to uniform surfaces. Powered by solar energy, this system represents a theoretical step toward decentralized water management and improved urban resilience. All figures presented are theoretical estimates, and final validation is contingent upon prototype development.
