Developing physical components to enhance environmental vitality in open and closed spaces (Case study: commercial-entertainment complexes)

Abstract :
    This research, titled Designing a Commercial-Entertainment Complex Based on the Role of Open and Closed Spaces in Promoting Environmental Vitality, examines the effect of coordinated design of open and closed spaces on the dynamism and environmental attractiveness of commercial-entertainment complexes in Kermanshah city. The present research was conducted with a qualitative research method and using document content analysis. The findings show that environmental vitality depends on factors such as the fluid connection of open and closed spaces, the use of climate-friendly materials, and functional diversity, and environmental vitality is maximized when open and closed spaces are designed not separately, but in a logical and fluid connection. The smooth connection of these two types of spaces facilitates pedestrian movement, functional diversity, and enhances the sense of discovery and spatial experience. The design of central atriums with natural light, movable canopies, and flexible urban furniture were suggested as key solutions. Also, inspiration from traditional architecture (such as the central courtyard) and its integration with modern technologies were identified as a strategy for creating a sense of belonging and social sustainability. By presenting indigenous design patterns, this research has taken an effective step towards improving the quality of urban public spaces and responding to the needs of the local community.
