Abstract :
Soil erosion, aquifer depletion, water-intensive monoculture and unsustainable trade in water-intensive crops threaten food security and territorial sustainability in Iran and the region. This study aims to present a balanced-economy model based on the Quranic teaching of Taqdir al-Aqwat, using a descriptive-analytical method and an interdisciplinary approach bridging comparative exegesis, Nahj al-Balaghah and environmental economics. The main finding is a four-pillar model of Imarah-Qadr-Mizan-Sawa: land rehabilitation before extraction, production and storage according to a known measure proportional to each land unit, fair trade without shortchanging and hoarding, and guaranteed rights for all needy from humans and livestock to the environment and future generations. The results show that the natural diversity of lands justifies surplus-based trade rather than imposed self-sufficiency in all products, and that the Josephian storage pattern offers resilience in periodic droughts. Accordingly, four solutions are proposed: land-unit-based planning and proportionate cropping, strategic storage, regional surplus trade and Imran-oriented governance with environmental water rights. The innovation lies in translating the Barakah-Aqwat duality into a capacity-production-sustainable trade cycle and introducing formative justice as a basis for Islamic environmental economics.
