Abstract :
The cement industry faces serious environmental challenges, including significant carbon dioxide emissions and high consumption of natural resources. Using recycled pozzolanic materials as a partial replacement for clinker is considered one of the effective solutions to reduce these destructive effects. In the present study, the effects of adding recycled brick waste and ceramic tile waste powder in different percentages on the physical and mechanical properties of Portland cement in Zaveh Torbat Cement Plant were investigated and compared. The tests included measuring cement softness (Blin), initial and final setting, compressive strength at different ages, and measuring the grit (residue on a 45 and 90 micron sieve). The results showed that the sample containing recycled brick waste was able to achieve an acceptable percentage of the strength of the control sample, which meets the pozzolanic index criterion. In the samples containing tile waste, the compressive strength also decreased with increasing replacement percentage. Both recycled materials increased the initial and final setting time compared to the control sample. In general, recycled brick waste and tile waste have good potential as pozzolanic materials to replace clinker in green cement production; so that recycled brick waste showed better performance in the pozzolanic index criterion, while tile waste has a relative advantage in improving 28-day strength.
