Abstract :
Humans change the environment according to their needs, values, and goals and are reciprocally affected by the changed environment; especially advanced technology causes the human impact on the environment to intensify and accelerate; some consider this rapid environmental change to be destructive and cause dissolution in the ecological system of humans and the environment, and they emphasize that any fundamental and profound change in the natural environment should be carried out with a view to its long-term impact on humans, anticipating its positive and negative results. This article, with a brief review of the process of creating and expanding environmental psychology and its relationship with light and color, attempts to introduce this new knowledge, which is not more than a few decades old, to architects, urban designers, and landscape architects. The article also focuses on concepts in environmental psychology such as architectural design, the effect of ambient light, the psychology of colors, and the identity of place, which can be of particular importance to environmental designers. This article presents discussions about environmental psychology, its influencing factors and principles in urban design, and also discusses important concepts and theories of environmental psychology. Finally, this article emphasizes the importance of creating courses related to this knowledge in the fields of architecture in Iranian universities.
