Systematic study of the most important medicinal plants and the international status of their use in the treatment of diseases

Abstract :
Recognizing the healing properties of medicinal plants as well as the harms of modern therapies has led to encouraging people to use medicinal plants. Many studies have been done on specific medicinal plants and their effectiveness in treating certain diseases and many articles have been published in this regard. But in the meantime, the existence of a study that is a review of these studies, it is felt that the purpose of this study. Materials and Methods: Using the keywords phytotherapy, herb medicine, herbal medicine and extract medicine, 7862 articles published since 2012 were searched and studied in ScienceDirect, PubMed and Springer electronic databases. The disease, the plant used and the author s opinion about the efficiency of the plant used were determined. At the end, these results were statistically analyzed. Results: 11.5% of the total articles were related to 8 plants, which are Ginseng (love), Salvia L. (sage), Ginkgo biloba (Ginkgo), hypericum L (herring), and allium, respectively. L (garlic), Zingiber (ginger), Aloe vera (almond) and Marijuana (hemp). The most common diseases studied were neuropsychiatric, immune-inflammatory, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and cancer diseases. In 89.2% of the articles, positive effects were mentioned and in a few of them, the benefits of using herbs in treatment were mentioned. 54.6% of the articles emphasized the need for more research for therapeutic use of plants. Discussion and Conclusion: According to these medicinal plants is the most common method of complementary medicine around the world and most studies indicate its positive effects, more attention is needed to conduct more accurate scientific studies to determine the mechanism of their effect.
