Abstract :
    Abstract Problem statement: urban spaces are key elements in structure of cities, which can reinforce identity and meaningfulness of the cities and create imaginations of mind. The concept of durability gives rise to sustainability of life during different periods. Urban spaces, as living space of human beings, could be one area for it to be manifested. Currently, lots of urban spaces are decaying, due to lack of durability in spatial, semantic, event and social dimensions. As such, it can be noted that the fabric of current Tehran carries small indications of durability. Objective: in this regard, the present study tries to discover the factors affecting durability forming and gives an analytical approach in this subject, based on stratificational semiotics. Finally, it presents a system, based on which can analyze the degree of durability. Methodology: this is an exploratory – explanatory research in which content analysis and deductive reasoning are used to establish intellectual basis of the research. In fact, stratificational semiotics used in this study, is a theoretical framework and a methodology under category of applied semiotics. Results: during developments in urban landscape, some indications are still present, while others have changed or disappeared. In case of those indications survived these days, the only solution is to preserve them in existing context. After all, these are authentic indications that can transfer into current era without any or slight changes. Results express that the amount of memorability of Imam khomeini (Toupkhaneh) square as an urban space based on the conceptual template presented in recent years and because of recent decisions of urban management has faded out. To retrieve the durability, operational indexes of suggested semiotic templates in the frame of perceptual and social codes can revive the memorability of this square
