Abstract :
Earthen dam is the largest structure in which natural materials with nonlinear behavior are used and this behavior is important from both the foundation and the body of the dam. The ground or foundation, according to the amount and condition of loading on it, must withstand loads at all stages, and hydraulically, the amount of water passing through the foundation and body must be within the allowable range. In the meantime, it seems necessary to study the seepage flow from the body and the earth dam in order to be aware of the pore water pressure, reservoir water losses and the possibility of leaching the fine particles of the core. In this research, the seepage flow from the foundation and body of the dam and the effect of drains in preventing leaching of earthen dam materials and disappearance of pore water pressure and thus improving the stability of Amand Dam have been investigated. By numerical modeling and using SEEP / W software which is a subset of GeoStudio software, leakage flow analysis and results have been compared using instrumentation data used in the dam. The results indicate the proper performance of Amand Dam against seepage currents from the foundation and body of the dam. Examination of the seepage and drainage status inside the core shows that the improvement of free water level in the clay core and also the gradient decrease in the downstream area due to the presence of vertical and horizontal drainages is desirable and normal and by comparing the discharge from the dam s heel Good performance was observed for dam drainage.
