Abstract :
The aim of this study was the survey effect of different ensiling time on the chemical composition of cucurbits residuals with palm and date leaves silage. In order to prepare silages, cucurbits residuals (watermelon and melon plants) and waste dried dates and date leaves with different proportions were completely mixed and ensiled in 1 kg plastic containers for 30, 45 and 60 days. The amount of dry matter (DM), ether extract (EE), crude fiber (CF), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent of fiber (NDF), acid detergent of fiber (ADF), organic matter (OM) and ash of the samples were determined after ensiling. The pH of the silages was determined immediately after opening the silos. The chemical composition of experimental silages was evaluated as a completely randomized design. The results of this research showed that increasing the ensiling time decreased DM, EE, fiber content, pH and metabolizable energy (p<0.05). The CP, ash, NDF and ADF percentages were increased with increasing ensiling time. The Flieg point and visual-sensory evaluation of silage were not affected ensiling time. The results of this research showed that, it is possible to prepare a suitable silage from the cucurbits residuals with palm and date leaves, and according to the percentage of CP and other nutrients, it can be used as a feedstuff in feeding ruminants.
