Abstract :
Choosing materials is a complex but delicate task that is tied to many and varied factors. For this reason, many components are often considered by the client and the architect when choosing different building materials. As a result, this set of factors or variables often make the decision-making process more complicated. On the other hand, the global attention and recommendation is to use local materials as much as possible. In many advanced countries, the use of local materials is considered as a privilege and value of a building in its pricing. Unfortunately, in recent years, observing the face of cities shows that the level of use of non-native materials has increased. The diversity, dispersion, chaos and irregularity of using different materials, in addition to making the appearance of the city unattractive, has created a large amount of refuse and material waste as a result of the change and transformation of buildings.. Therefore, the present research has studied the factors that intervened in the selection of materials by reviewing the available sources, and by comparing them, it has discussed why native materials are not welcomed. The findings of the research show that the selection of materials is influenced by six economic, aesthetic, technical, spatial, environmental and socio-cultural evaluation factors. Among these, the socio-cultural background plays the main role in not paying attention to local materials.
