Abstract :
Sustainability, as one of the fundamental principles of contemporary architecture, seeks to create interaction between human needs, environment and economy. This concept is of particular importance in the design of local buildings, especially in cities with special climatic conditions. The city of Hamedan, with its cold and mountainous climate and rich cultural and historical background, provides a suitable platform for analyzing the physical patterns of sustainable buildings. This research examines the physical features and sustainable architecture in residential and commercial buildings in Hamadan and tries to explain the principles governing the design of these buildings. Sustainable local buildings in Hamedan are designed based on three key principles: adapting to climatic conditions, using local materials, and responding to social and economic needs. In this architecture, the use of a central courtyard, thick walls for thermal insulation, and limited openings to reduce energy loss are examples of physical adaptation to the region s climate. Also, the use of local materials such as stone and clay, while reducing costs and easy access, also minimizes environmental impacts. These principles in commercial buildings also help to improve economic productivity and create a healthy environment by creating multi-purpose spaces, easy access to natural light and proper ventilation. Spaces such as internal courtyards, terraces and communal spaces increase the sense of interaction and belonging and meet the social needs of residents. In commercial buildings, flexible and compatible design with local consumption patterns, including markets and small commercial complexes, contributes greatly to economic and social sustainability. Using the descriptive and analytical method, this research emphasizes the importance of recognizing and using local architectural patterns in contemporary designs and introduces the Terme building as a successful example of this approach, which can inspire other similar projects in regions with similar climatic conditions.
