Abstract :
The side Spillway as a dam dependent hydraulic structure, in spite of the hydraulic constraints, can be considered as the best overflow option in the specific conditions of the topography of the dam faces. The geometric complexity of the overflow and its inadequate hydraulic conditions, such as high energy losses, turbulence, and a more detailed survey of the flow field in this type of overflow are necessary. In this research, by selecting the side Spillway of Shahid Madani Dam as a case study, the possibility of occurrence of the cavitation phenomenon has been investigated. To simulate three-dimensional real-time overflow, FLOW-3D software and disturbance model K-ε RNG has been used/ The results of overflow modeling show that the numerical model simulates the parameters of flow and pressure velocity with acceptable accuracy. Calculations of the cavitation index and its result during the rapid show that the cavitation phenomenon in the discharge of 2204 m3/s per second and they also show the resulting damage in the extremity of the end parts.
