Abstract :
As a holistic approach, sustainable development has clarified the link between environment, social, and economic [ ], and tries to find a balance between these three domains both at local level and global level [ ]. On the other hand, the world is facing a rapid globalization which can have negative impacts on the quality of a human’s life if it neglects the importance of locals, and consequently sustainability by destroying the balance between what local needs and what global says. This phenomenon is more considerable in developing countries, where the term “globalization” is being misused. The planners in such countries use this term along with “sustainability” to show they apply new methods, tools, and technologies in their policy and planning, without considering the communities’ values, demands, and desires. While the increasing gap between local and global level is visible in different settings, this research has a focus on social setting in its relation with social sustainability. Now, the question is what is the relation between globalization and social sustainability? What are the impacts of increasing the gap between global and local social context? What is the effect of globalization in developing countries while confronting social sustainability? How is it possible to reach social sustainability using new methods and technologies which is trending in global level? The project aims to understand the concept of globalization in its relation with social sustainability in an urban environment through evaluating the impacts of trending methods and techniques.
