Abstract :
On 12 November 2017 an earthquake with a moment magnitude of 7.3 Richter occurred in Kermanshah province in Iran which killed many people and made them homeless too. Damaging of existing buildings were noticeable and it was wondering that even some new buildings which had been designed by new codes, were destroyed too. As we know we cannot refuse to construct structures only in safe places, as a consequence we can investigate their vulnerability and risk too and predict the structure behavior and then if the behaviors are not acceptable we can revise it to reduce damages. This paper investigates many repetitive mistakes which damaged building in Sarpol Zahab. As a case study one buildings was selected. In first supposed that it was undamaged and had exact situations before earthquake. After analyzing and evaluating the mentioned situation, the results were compared and verified with situation of current building after earthquake. The results indicated that majority of damages had sourced from constructing mistakes which had changed main behaviors. Investigating of Moment resisting concrete frame revealed that it had weaker columns than beams. It had a large displacement which had caused to create plastic hinges in many columns and beams too. After probing and realizing the weakness and defect of this structures, some retrofitting plans considered to improve behaviors and make them operational
