Abstract :
The present research studied freedom metaphorical expressions in an Iranian context within the framework of Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT) by Lakoff and Johnson (1980) for the analysis of the obtained information [1]. Through investigating the selected corpus, among 5,000,000 words, only 23 freedom metaphorical expressions were detected. In addition, a Conceptual Metaphor Completion Test (CMCT) was given to 350 people to elicit their opinions, views, and intentions about freedom conceptual metaphor. The results proposed that only 23 primary metaphorical expressions discovered from Persian newspaper articles. Likewise, 10 primary metaphors were detected from the Conceptual Metaphor Completion Test. Finally, the findings represented that Iranian people mostly have a positive orientation towards the concept of freedom in their ordinary life.
