Abstract :
New bracing systems for earthquake resistant steel structures are investigated in this paper. These new lateral bracing systems called the OGrid and the Nested are braced frames with circular braces connected to moment-resisting frame (MRF) with joint connections. To assess linear and nonlinear behavior of the OGrid and the Nested, these new bracing systems are studied and compared with moment resisting frame (MRF), X-bracing system and Diagrid bracing system in 50 and 80-story models through response spectrum analysis and nonlinear static (pushover) analysis. Results showed that new OGrid and Nested bracing systems have appropriate vibration period, elastic stiffness and displacement. Absorbed energy of the new OGrid and Nested bracing systems in comparison with moment resisting frame in 50-story frame is about 9 times and in 80-story frame is about 4 times. The structural seismic value in OGrid and Nested bracing systems in comparison with moment resisting frame in 50-story frame and 80-story frame is 9.7 and 4.5 times, respectively. These systems have got high ductility factor which dissipates much force and are associated with warning before the damage.
