Abstract :
Ion-exchange polymers (IEPs) are among the stimulus-responsive materials that have been used in various industries for years, but the use of these smart polymers in biomedical engineering has not been much discussed. Ions play important roles in the human body, therefore biomedical applications of IEPs are under intensive development. This review covers the two most common applications of IEP-based substrates in medicine which are tissue engineering and controlled drug release systems.
