Abstract :
Breast cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers among women today. It occurs when cells in the breast start to grow out of proportion and invade neighboring tissues or spread throughout the body. It is much more common in females than in males. The typical periods of cancer development are during puberty, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. For primary stage breast cancer detection, mammography techniques are being used for a long time. The disadvantages associated with the technology lead the researchers to find a better method for screening breasts. At present, thermal imaging clearly possesses a special role in this stage due to rapid diagnosis and use of harmless rays. This review paper compares different approaches based on breast thermography techniques which use CAD systems. We explore the quantitative and qualitative performances of machine learning based approaches, which include segmentation based and feature extraction-based methods, dimensionality reduction, and various classification schemes. The main goal of this article is to describe the capability of infrared imaging in preliminary diagnosis of breast cancer and the importance of CAD systems in diagnosing and right classification.
