Abstract :
The effect of the Air Entraining Admixtures (AEA) in concrete mix applications are investigated to obtain a detailed understanding on the mechanisms of air bubbles, influencing factors and on the durability of the air entrained concrete. It is understood that the air entraining admixtures generates very high amounts of microscopic air bubbles in concrete and the formation of these air voids should be considered carefully to form evenly distributed small air bubbles that are not interconnected with each other. the main aim of using an air entrained concrete is to improve the durability of a reinforced concrete member by improving the permeability of the concrete. As well as significantly improving the performance of the concrete in rough environments such as freeze/thaw and elevated temperatures. As much as the air entrainment in concrete can be beneficial in harsh environments, the strength of the concrete might reduce significantly if no precaution measures are undertaken.
