Abstract :
Injection molding is a common process of polymer forming in which molten polymeric materials are injected into the mold under pressure. Plastic gear wheels are one of the products that can be molded in this way and are also continuing to displace metal gears in a widening arena of applications. Injection-molded plastic gears are now being used in everything from food processors to windshield wiper drives, and from industrial and medical equipment to watches and automobiles. Plastic gears offers many advantages over metal ones, including lower cost, design freedom, lower coefficient of friction and etc. Simulation of the injection molding process of such products could be done using Mold Flow, i.e., a software which provides accurate and comprehensive information about the mentioned process. In this research, the design of a plastic gear wheel was undertaken using AutoCAD software and studies related to injection molding process was done using Mold Flow software.
