Abstract :
Face masks were proved to be essential protection to reduce the virus transmission risk, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic due to the whopping reduction of the amount of transmission of the virus through saliva or droplets. In this study, the COVID-19 crisis data generated in early 2020 was used to develop a product that can safeguard people from the coronavirus such as the anti-viral face masks named “MyShield”. The product contains silver fibers at nanoscale inside the natural cotton, clearly seen from Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) images, which shows to be able to disrupt the behavior and replication of the virus within 0 to 5 minutes. The current mask can maintain its anti-viral properties up to 100 washes due to its self-cleaning properties. In addition, effective protection to prevent COVID-19 virus transmission is provided in a relatively low-cost product, making the current mask an economical one. MyShield mask has also received several international certifications including ASTM F1212, ISO18184, and ISO20743.
