Abstract :
Anthrax is an acute and sub-acute disease caused by Bacillus anthracis which is grouped under the highly dangerous biological agents (category A). Classical procedures for B. anthracis detections involve culture, gamma-phage lysis, immunologic tests that are time consuming and their implementation requires expensive equipment. Loop mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) is an innovative molecular technique developing as a simple rapid diagnostic tool for detection and identification of microbial diseases in which reagents react rapidly and efficiently, with a high specificity and sensitivity, shorten the detection process, without nucleic acid extraction and without specialized thermal cycling equipment. Moreover, LAMP is cost effective and portable. As a result, this technique can be used as a valuable tool for rapid and cost effective for detection of B. anthracis from different bacteria subfamilies in cases of bioterrorism and can be a valuable tool for fast and efficient detection of this lethal bacteria. This mini-review discusses examined the findings reported on the use of a modern technique of Loop mediated isothermal amplification for the detection of B. anthracis.
