Abstract :
The study of the electrical properties of rocks is of particular importance and is of interest to many majors in physics, geology, etc. To study the electromagnetic waves caused by the tectonic movements of the earth that usually cause earthquakes, in this section, we will study the electric current caused by the pressure applied to gabbro and granite rocks. The pressure of the rock by the hydraulic pressure device causes the flow in the samples. Applying pressure activates peroxy defects, creating an electron-hole pair. In other words, a type of proxy defect in a silicate mineral O3Si-OO-SiO3 replaces the normal O3Si-O-SiO3. These charge carriers cause a potential difference between the central volume of the pressurized rock and the non-pressurized edges and produce the outflow current from the pressurized sub-volume. The pressurized rock acts like a battery that is turned on using pressure and turned off by removing pressure. The pressure in the samples increases and then decreases and then decreases until it reaches normal. At the same time, we record current changes during the pressure-time by Nano Ammeter. Then, using the obtained data, we calculate the surface potential change function of the sample, which in the next research of the authors (the second part of this research) and also the recording of surface potential changes will indicate the presence of additional pressure, which will have many applications.
