The effect of promoting kinesthetic intelligence on young/beginner EFL learners’ academic achievements

Abstract :
Intelligence is a higher-level capacity including mental representation, abstract
reasoning, decision-making, and problem-solving. It is the ability to learn a second
language, creativity, and emotional knowledge. To assess the effects of this intelligence
on beginner EFL learners’ academic achievements and teachers perception of this
methodology a mixed method research was conducted. In a quantitative manner, 2
groups of students, each group consisting of 15 beginner-level students were randomly
selected from beginner classes of an institute. Both groups went through a 16-session
class taught by conventional methodologies going on in private schools such as taskbased language teaching (TBLT) but in the experimental group, kinesthetic intelligence
was the primary focus and the related instructor tried to implement this treatment in all
possible tasks, after the semester was over and during the final exam the experimental
group outperformed meaningfully in comparison to the control group. So it can be
concluded that implementing kinesthetic intelligence in syllabi and teaching
methodology of young/beginner students has meaningful positive effects. On the other
party, the teachers were interviewed in 3 different intervals, two times during the
semester and once after the final exam was conducted, the themes extracted from the
transcribed interviews implied positive and hopeful achievements such as more energic
classes, better peer-to-peer interaction, more classroom engagement and overall
positive class atmosphere.
