Abstract :
Nowadays, certification systems have developed due to increasing energy consumption and limited resources with the aim of producing alternative solutions. Certification systems other important goals are, evolved to make buildings in the world more live able, green and sustainable, and there are also a number of certification systems. LEED [Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design] and BREEAM [Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology] are the most recognized and preferred certification systems worldwide. Both systems have created a list of criteria for the identification of green buildings. These systems are effective in creating awareness of perception and in increasing the numbers of buildings that meet the basic criteria of green buildings and sustainability. There is a new breakthrough in health issues and major hospitals are being built. However, there are no clear standards to qualitatively refer to these in the context of sustainable construction. In this study, LEED and BREEAM certification system are studied by comparing the required rules, requirements, regulations, required values between the two certification systems by taking into consideration of the related parts in the health facilities regarding the hospitals and presenting the differences and similarities between these two systems.
