Abstract :
The state of the world at the beginning of the 21st century warns of an unstable development. Architects, as shapers of artificial environments, have a social responsibility to provide designs that have the least number of negative effects on the environment. Throughout history, terms such as green architecture, ecological architecture, sustainable architecture, and environmental architecture have been used in order to answer the most important problem of the time, while carrying a burden of vague and unclear concepts. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to analyze the architecture based on the evolution of environmental thinking and to present the conceptual model, principles and criteria of green architecture. The method used according to the purpose is the applied research method and the method of study according to the method and nature is descriptive-analytical research and its data collection is based on the study of written sources and their content analysis. Considering that green is an abstract concept, it requires an understanding of the term s sustainability, ecology and performance The measurement and evaluation criteria of green architecture have been deduced according to the evolution of architecture during the past decades and presented in the context of the conceptual model of the principles and criteria of green architecture. The results showed that green architecture is a maturity in the course of architectural developments and consists of functional, ecological and sustainability dimensions. During the stages of its evolution, architecture has tried to integrate principles and criteria derived from ancient thinking, such as organic, tropical, ecological architecture, to modern architectural concepts such as functionalist, mechanistic and sustainable architecture, and with the formation of green architecture, it is a link between traditional and modern thinking. It has created a minimal ecological footprint.
