Abstract :
In developing countries, food security, immigration, and economic balance are crucial matters to be considered. Our review aims to critically analyze urban agriculture and food systems to propose urban zoning, UA methods, and civic engagement in creating spaces for urban agriculture in Rasht city. Bringing together multidisciplinary literature on urban agriculture and the distribution of urban-produced foods in a thematic, systematic review, gaps between academic research and practical proposal have been pointed out. The study integrates academic literature from Web of Science searches for theoretical background and GIS and filed visits for technical data. The set includes a brief explanation of urban agriculture, its categories and method of application, and Rasht’s description of historical, climatic, economic, and cultural views. In the next step Rasht municipal area has been chosen as the site of the proposal; three different zones have been practiced for multiple scales, from efforts that consider an entire city to those that impact a single building or garden. The study portrays that a potential city like Rasht can host a variety of UA practices to flourish its ecotourism feature and to secure its citizen food. This work has implications for urban planners, landscape designers, and food system stakeholders as opportunities to integrate urban agriculture into the fabric of our cities expand.
