Abstract :
The present article aims to explore the principles of building design in dry and semi-desert climates with an emphasis on new technologies. Building design in these climates faces unique challenges due to extreme temperatures, limited water resources, and high levels of solar radiation. This article provides an overview of traditional building design principles and examines the evolution of design practices and technologies, drawing on previous research in the field. A range of building design principles, including site selection, orientation, passive cooling strategies, insulation, natural ventilation, and daylighting, are discussed. Furthermore, the article highlights new technologies for building design in dry and semi-desert climates, such as advanced materials, energy-efficient systems, renewable energy integration, water conservation, smart building systems, and green roofs and walls. Several case studies of innovative building designs and technologies are also presented to demonstrate real-world applications. The discussion section analyzes the effectiveness of these principles and technologies, identifies opportunities and challenges in their implementation, and provides recommendations for architects, designers, and policymakers. In conclusion, the article summarizes the main findings, implications, and future research directions related to building design principles and new technologies in dry and semi-desert climates.
