Abstract :
This paper seeks to investigate common features in Grotowski s performances and Zar s rituals to prove that they are role models of psychodrama due to their therapeutic effects on people engaging in the performance. This research is conducted with a descriptive-analytical method and the data gathering was literature including books, essays, and the record of mentioned theatre and ritual. In each period of Jerzy Grotowski s career, he focused on therapy. In the first period, he concentrated on actors, and in the second period, he focused on participants. In Zar, we can see that the function of the ritual is healing the patient who suffered physically and mentally. In psychodrama, psychologists use a method in which taking action is much more important than talking about the problem. This paper after exploring similar aspects shows three ways of performing performances with a therapeutic effect with the use of psychology and play.
