Abstract :
In this article, a suitable element for modeling soil and foundation media in OpenSees software is presented. This element is obtained based on the theory of a beam on a two-parameter foundation. First, with numerical modeling, the stiffness of the soil under the foundation is obtained as a two-parameter foundation, then the two-dimensional beam element is produced according to the obtained soil stiffness matrices in the OpenSees software. The element comprises different variables affecting on dynamic behavior of structures. Variables are story numbers, natural period of fixed base, factor of safety, soil properties and foundation size. Then this element is compared with the conventional cone method. From the results of this comparison, it can be found that the proposed element can be a good approximation for soil-foundation stiffness.
