Abstract :
The conventional wisdom that culture is the fundamental driver of complex human emotions has faced challenges in recent decades. Human nature is influenced by both culture and genes, though culture has a key role. This work explores the complexity and functional logic of emotions like envy and jealousy using evolutionary psychology (EP) techniques. Using cognition assessment, the authors examine the social cues that result in these emotions. They argue that paradoxes where observable behavior defies common sense can be resolved by taking evolutionary factors into account. Furthermore, they suggest that understanding the evolutionary causes of undesirable emotions or behaviors could aid in their treatment, amplifying the benefits of already available methods such as psychotherapy and more importantly, cognitive behavior therapy.
