Abstract :
Motor drives are a versatile technology that offers many advantages such as exceptional speed control and flexibility. Improving reliability and efficiency has become a huge research interest. In this direction and according to recent major developments in supercapacitor technology, the use of Bidirectional energy recovery converters has been introduced in various industrial applications. In this article, the regenerative braking of a three-phase induction motor under the control of a variable frequency drive is analyzed and part of the kinetic energy that can be recovered is calculated. The main role of this article is the energy saving estimation method that can be achieved using this energy recovery feature. In addition, the optimal duration of braking that maximizes the recovered energy will be investigated. Validation of the analysis presented in this article is done experimentally and the results are discussed.
