Abstract :
Teaching grammar to young EFL learners brings a number of difficulties to teachers in language institutes or schools. The current research was aimed to examine effects of animated pictures on teaching grammar to young EFL learners. To answer the questions of the research, the researcher adopted the experimental method. The sample of the study consisted of fifty female lower intermediate learners who were based on their scores on the QPT, from Maryam Language Institute. The researcher randomly divided the participants into two groups, experimental and control. During three weeks of treatment (3 treatments in a week), 9 grammar points and related examples were selected from the book English time 6 and were presented to both groups, to the experimental group via animated pictures and the control group through the traditional method. A grammar test of seven questions with twenty items was designed to be used as the pre – posttest. The results of the study were analyzed, using t-test to verify the hypotheses of the study. The results indicated that there were statistically significant differences in mean scores of the grammar test in favor of the experimental group in the post test. In the light of these results, the study recommended the necessity of using animated pictures in teaching grammar. Ministry of Education, syllabus designers and teachers can benefit from the results of the study in including animated pictures in teaching grammar to EFL learners.
