Abstract :
In contemporary era of Iran, especially in many cities of Iran, it is possible to see the lack of identity and confusion. These features growing up in architecture and urban design. That s why the architects and urban planners are interested about Iranian identity and culture. Inconsistency and contradiction between the built environment and social identity and cultural components will be detrimental for the people in the environment. Blind imitation and transformation of urban development and architecture led to the destruction and forgetting the symbols and patterns, which of them have a specific meaning and these features recording the history and each of national cultures. Contemporary cities of Iran after the nineteenth century they are still to losing their identity. The old buildings as a symbols of culture in cities have a role of remainder of the cities identity. But its big a pity of inattention and distraction to the historical buildings, because it’s not just changing the texture and appearance of the city, either this situation led to destruction and becoming to forgetting the several histories. As a result Modern and western building forms instead of historical and dilapidated buildings so new identity filling to main Iranian identity. The main purpose of the current study has been descriptive-analytic method as well as the use of library resources, the effect of architecture on identity. At last the provide solutions for Identity and Iranian traditional architecture in the contemporary period will be presented as a conclusion.
