Abstract :
In this paper it is tried to calculate base shear force of a steel intermediate and special moment-resisting frame structure with certain characteristic of 5-story residential building built on a stiff soil in a region with very high seismicity according to six building codes including ASCE standard of USA, 2800-Sandard of Iran, Eurocode 8 for Italy, Australian standard (AS 1170.4-2007), Alberta Building code 2006 (ABC 2006) of Canada and National Building Code of India 2005, in order to find differences between the calculated amounts such as fundamental time period of building, base shear coefficient and structure behavior factor for both intermediate and special moment-resisting frames according to each countries’ building codes and to see which country has a more conservatory results towards the base shear force although, in Eurocode and building code of India for all types of steel moment-resisting frames only one behavior factor is considered therefore for both special and intermediate moment frames there is only one amount for base shear coefficient and so base shear force to compare.
Keywords : Base shear force fundamental time period base shear coefficient site class importance factor behavior factor of structure.
