Abstract :
The present study aims at investigating two main purposes. First, the relationship between critical thinking and the use of language learning strategies among Iranian EFL learners in two different university majors including TEFL and translation. Second, the difference between high and low critical thinkers in terms of using language learning strategies in these two majors. Data was gathered from 55 TEFL students and 85 translation students at Azad University using the Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL; Oxford, 1990), and a questionnaire of Critical Thinking (Honey, 2004). Totally eight research questions were answered. The results of the study show that 1) there is a significant relationship between the language learning strategy use and critical thinking of TEFL students, 2) there is a significant relationship between the language learning strategy use and critical thinking of translation students, 3) there is a significant relationship between the types of language learning strategy use and critical thinking of TEFL students, 4) there is not a significant relationship between the types of language learning strategy use and critical thinking of translation students.
