Abstract :
**Objective:** This study aims to reinterpret the role of landscape architecture in enhancing social vitality in the public spaces of Kermanshah, Iran, by examining the physical, environmental, and social potentials of landscape design in improving citizens’ experiences and strengthening social interactions.
**Research Methodology:** In terms of its objective, this study is applied in nature, while its methodological approach is qualitative and descriptive. Data are collected through documentary and library-based research, as well as an examination of theoretical concepts related to landscape architecture, social vitality, and the quality of public spaces. The data are analyzed using qualitative content analysis, with an emphasis on interpreting relevant concepts and components.
**Findings:** The theoretical analysis indicates that accessibility, vegetation, environmental comfort, perceived safety, urban furniture, activity diversity, and the suitability of public spaces for the needs of different social groups are among the key factors influencing the quality of public spaces. These characteristics can contribute to enhancing social vitality by encouraging citizens to visit and spend time in public spaces, facilitating social interactions, and strengthening a sense of place attachment. However, the effects of these factors also depend on the city’s cultural, social, and managerial conditions.
**Conclusion and Research Gap:** Reinterpreting the role of landscape architecture indicates that the design of public spaces should move beyond a purely aesthetic approach and prioritize human and social dimensions. The main research gap lies in the need to clarify the relationship between urban landscape characteristics and social vitality indicators, taking into account the local context of Kermanshah. Accordingly, developing a context-sensitive framework that reflects local characteristics can contribute to the planning and design of more vibrant, inclusive, and interaction-oriented public spaces.
