Abstract :
One of the methods used in tectonic studies is the calculation of stresses using focal mechanism data from earthquakes. In this study, by calculating the P, B and T axes of earthquakes based on their focal mechanism, the direction of maximum horizontal stress in the southern front of the Eurasia collision is obtained. The results show significant changes along the main stress axes in the region while showing good agreement with the stress inversion results. Also, the maximum horizontal stress directions with respect to the trend of active faults in the area show good similarity with the geological structures in the studied areas. This study showed that the characteristics of focal mechanisms of earthquakes can be used as a reliable initial estimate for stress studies.
