Abstract :
Background and Objectives: A person is much more likely to be abused in the family than outside the family. This study was conducted to investigate domestic violence, especially sibling abuse, among families in Kabul province.
Methodology: In this study, 370 girls and boys in families in Kabul were selected as a sample using simple convenient sampling, and researcher-made questionnaires were distributed among them.
Findings and Conclusion: Descriptive findings suggested that sibling physical abuse was 26.4%, sibling psychological abuse was 26.4%, and sibling sexual abuse was 10.2% among Kabul families. Victims of sibling abuse over the age of 16 were the most frequent (54.5%). The highest number of siblings was in children 4 and older (28%), 54.5% were among Tajiks, and 41.5% of those with primary education had high rates of sibling abuse in families. On the other hand, 37.6% of unemployed families, 36% of low-income families, 50% of parents living alone, and 54.4% of families with vehicles were more likely to have abused siblings.
Analytical findings indicated that the cultural and social characteristics of families such as parent s education level, poverty, and unemployment affect sibling violence and that students with lower family backgrounds than others had more violence among them. According to the results, social factors and cultural levels of families affected children s violence. So, if the community can strengthen the normative and cultural components of families through education, it can promote the health of families.
