Abstract :
    abstract Modernism in cultural history represents a wide range of aesthetic breaks from the tradition of European realism that has taken place since the 19th century. With the expansion of the modernist way of thinking in art, a deep transformation was created in the direction of art. Various theorists called form and formalism the basic characteristic of contemporary art. If, based on this theory, the value of the work of art was only followed by the importance of the formal elements of the work. Facing the influence of modernism in Iranian art in the 1920s, profound changes took place and new artists achieved different achievements in this way. In this regard, the women painters of Iran also had a significant contribution in the process of formation of the modernism movement and its expansion, and they tried to keep pace with this movement. Based on this, this article will investigate the characteristics of modernism in the atmosphere of the works of contemporary Iranian women painters in the 40s and 50s. The descriptive-analytical research method is based on formalist theory. The collection of information has been obtained through documentary and library studies. It seems that by examining and analyzing the characteristics of modernism, the main characteristic of modernism is change and innovation in form and visual components. The results of the research show that the centrality of finding the characteristics of modern art has caused various tendencies of modernism in the works of contemporary Iranian women painters.
