Abstract :
Nonparametric statistical classification procedures that are extensively developed in various sciences can make constructive changes in the earth sciences. Conventional tectonic maps provide a good overall understanding of the tectonic zones of an area, but they cannot give the reader a specific criterion for this division. In this research, a set of independent computational characteristics of Iran have been used for the Nonparametric Statistical Analysis (NSA) to construct a tectonic zoning map. An optimal break value associated with the standard deviation has been applied as a criterion to improve the accuracy of the boundary locations. The results of this method have led to the identification of 15 zones and 12 subzones. NSA-based map, in contrast to the conventional reference map, has differences that relate to the statistical effect of new items in the zoning. For example, The NSA-based map divides the central Iran more precisely than previous maps. The NSA method is very flexible and can be improved with more database and more precise metrics.
